Sparta’s Annual Bike Trail Celebration May 4th, 2024
59 Years Young and Still Going Strong
Sparta, WI – The Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce will be celebrating the beginning of another great season of bicycling in Western Wisconsin on Saturday, May 4, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Sparta Chamber Depot, 111 Milwaukee Street.
The tunnel doors of the Elroy-Sparta Trail are traditionally opened by the DNR on May 1 of each year, leading to Sparta’s celebration on the following Saturday. The event will highlight the entire Elroy-Sparta Trail and will include stops in Elroy at the Commons Area, in Wilton at the Dorset Valley Schoolhouse, the Kendall Depot, the Norwalk Park, and in Sparta at the Depot.
There will be a community bike ride beginning at 9:00 AM, meeting at the Sparta Depot and will be led by the Sparta Ice Cream Man, Fred Green. You will return to the Depot at 10:00 AM to enjoy a fun-filled day filled with music, kids activities, and so much more!
The return of the BMX Stunt Team will be putting on a fantastic show in the west parking lot at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Kiwanis will be in attendance with their famous Bike Rodeo. Sparta’s Area Fire Department will give us a show on the seven-man bike. Balloons by Kevin and the Magic of Isaiah will be at the Depot all day and will be sure to put smiles on your faces. DJ Jonathan will entertain our ears with his music stylings. FREE youth activities include bubbles, games, and bike blender smoothies. The day will also be hosting Schindoggies and Handly’s Old Fashion Glazed Donuts food trucks. The official ribbon cutting ceremony will commence at 1:45 in the afternoon.
The Elroy-Sparta Trail is an integral part of not only the Sparta Community, but for the towns along the trail. Stop at each of the locations for your chance to win a “Trail Basket” that includes gifts from all down the trail. Day passes are available along the Trail for $5 or $25 for an annual pass and are required if you are cycling on any state trail.
